CNC machines and their advantages

CNC Machining:

CNC Machining is a manufacturing process where computers run programs that control how the machines will manufacture parts. These CNC Programs using CNC Software can control everything from the motions the machine makes to spindle speed, turning coolant on or off, and much more. The computer language used to program CNC Machines is called “G-Code”.

CNC Machines are often chosen when manufacturing must result in high precision or quality, or when the materials are particularly tough and hard to work.

There are many different kinds of CNC Machines including 3D Printers, CNC Mills, CNC Lathes, CNC Lasers, Water Jets, Electric Discharge Machines (EDM’s), CNC Routers.

History  of CNC machines :

The first NC machines were built in the 1940s and 1950s, based on existing tools that were modified with motors that moved the tool or part to follow points fed into the system on a common telecommunication data storage technology known as “punched tape” or “perforated paper tape. Those early servomechanisms were rapidly augmented with analog and digital computers, creating the modern CNC machine tools that have revolutionized machining processes in the 1950s and 1960s.

As numerical control technology moved into the 1960s and 1970s, a very familiar form of a CNC machine that most would recognize today started taking shape. Digital technology then entered the fray, and automation in production processes became more efficient than ever. In fact, many individuals can purchase – and even design – their own homemade CNC machines. Because of how advanced computers are nowaday.

How Does CNC Machining Work:

When a CNC system is activated, the desired cuts are programmed into the software and dictated to corresponding tools and machinery, which carry out the dimensional tasks as specified, much like a robot.

With a numerical control machine, programs are inputted via punch cards. By contrast, the programs for CNC machines are fed to computers through small keyboards.                  CNC programming is retained in a computer’s memory. The code itself is written and edited by programmers. Therefore, CNC systems offer far more expansive computational capacity. Best of all, CNC systems are by no means static, since newer prompts can be added to pre-existing programs through revised code.

Advantages of CNC Machining:

  1. Precision Components: The digital template and autonomous machining of CNC practically eliminate human error and achieve accuracy.
  2. Reliable Endurance: CNC machines work around-the-clock daily, weekends and holidays. They only stop for needed maintenance or repair.
  3. High Production and Scalability: Once the design parameters and specification have been entered into a CNC machine, it consistently executes huge quantities and affords flexible scalability.
  4. More Capability: When used in tandem with advanced design software, CNC machines create outputs that cannot be replicated by manual machines. These machines can produce any size, shape or texture needed.
  5. Less Labor: CNC machining requires fewer personnel to execute the production tasks. One skilled operator can run several of the autonomous CNC machines.
  6. Uniform Product:the advantages of CNC machines, the output of it matches exactly , each part is a perfect match to the prototype’s exact specifications.
  7. Lower Costs: The collective result of high speed, efficiency, specialization, precision and most of all, fewer labor hours, all add up to a better bottom line for your business. The lower costs, in turn, can be used to create a competitive advantage and business reinvestment.
  8. Better Safety: Along with an expedient production process and consistent pieces comes a safer environment. While there are operators involved in operating CNC machines, they are at a distance from the sharp tools.
  9. Design Retention: Once a design has been loaded into the CNC machining software and a perfect prototype has been created, the program can easily retrieve the design to run it and create the object again. The master file ensures that regardless of external factors such as machine-operator changes, the CNC machining process produces a spot-on match every time.
  10. Low Maintenance:CNC machines generally do not require much service other than to change the cutting implements at the proper interval and do some light cleaning.
  11. Versatility: CNC machining itself creates virtually any component you can imagine. Some of the models include special features and accessories that further expedite and simplify the production process.
